About George Washington

Today I learned about George Washington. He was the General of the revolutionary war. He let the army to fight against the Great Britain.

George Washington was born on Feb 22, 1732 on a farm in Virginia. When he was little, he lived on a farm called Mount Vernon. When he was 6, he started school in a one room school house. At 11, his father died, so he had to live with his brother Lawrence.

People don't know a lot about his childhood. When his father died, he inherited 10 slaves. When he died in 1799, he had over 300 slaves. He freed all his own slaves in his will.

In 1789, George Washington was elected the First President of the United States. He was President for eight years. The city of Washington D.C. was named after him.
