Winter Break Vacation 1 --- Skiing at Santa Fe

I had a wonderful time skiing at Santa Fe with my family this winter break.

I was so excited that I was going to go skiing for the very first time. There were so many questions bunched up in my head on the way :" Would I be good or bad at skiing?", "How are skis supposed to stay put on your feet?","What was the place going to be like?".

When we drove on the winding snow-covered road to Ski Santa Fe,  I realized that the ski place was on a huge mountain. We were driving in a forest in the mountains. All the trees were covered in snow so they looked like large, crystal snowflakes. Finally, we arrived at our destination.

Once our car got to the parking lot, there were not many available spots left, so we had to park at the far end of the parking lot. Once we got out, I put on snow boots, snow pants, two thick winter jackets, one pair of thick gloves, and finally a hat shaped like a cat. As you can probably guess, I did not want to be cold in the snow.

It was a long way uphill to the ski rental place. Me and my mom were far behind the rest of my family, we couldn't adjust to the altitude of over 10,000 feet quickly and felt a bit short of breath.

At this time, a car pulling an open platform came by, the driver asked if we wanted to take the ride to the entrance. Lucky us! We waved to our family when we passed by them.

The rental process felt like it took forever because I couldn't wait one more minute to start skiing.

These are equipment you need for a happy skiing.

Finally, my brother, my sister and I walked up the hill to get to the conveyor belt to start skiing. It wasn't that hard to ski. To everybody's surprise, I zoomed down easily. I did that a few more times, then we decided that it was time to try the lift.

The hill that the lift lead to was much bigger than the conveyor belt hill. It was also funner. I could feel the speed and the coldness biting my cheeks. Even though my face was as cold as ice, it was still exciting to go down at such intense speed.

We skied two days there. On the second day, there was a snow storm. My mom bought me a mask so that my face wouldn't feel that cold any more. My brother and sister got theirs too. The masks worked well to protect our faces, now there was no reason to stop. We kept on skiing and skiing until it was getting dark.

On the way back to our hotel,  the snow-covered downhill ride was super slippery and slow, but my dad was confident enough to drive in the mountains because he had a pair of new tire-chains on our tires. It took him three hours to put them on the night before. We drove safely and happily to our hotel.

I had an amazing time skiing at Santa Fe. I wish I could go there soon again.
